Grades 3–8 · Long Island Catholic Parishes · Est. 2024

Play the game.
Build the person.

A recreational youth basketball league where character, belonging, and joy in the game matter more than the scoreboard.

About the League

Welcome to North Shore Parish Hoops

We bring together four North Shore Long Island parishes to give kids in grades 3–8 a place to learn the game, grow as people, and belong to something bigger than themselves.

Winning is part of competition. It is not the purpose.

What We Believe

Six Core Beliefs

Everything we do on the court traces back to these six ideas.

01

Every kid can play

No child sits out of the experience. Every player gets real minutes and real coaching.

02

Effort matters

We celebrate hustle, hard work, and showing up — not just talent or the final score.

03

Belonging matters

Every kid should feel like a valued part of the team, regardless of skill level.

04

Character matters

Basketball is the vehicle. Building good character is the destination.

05

Fun matters

If kids aren’t enjoying the game, we’ve lost sight of why we’re here.

06

Health matters

We support kids’ physical activity and emotional well-being, on and off the court.

Coaching & Culture

How We Lead

Our coaches are the culture-carriers of the league. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

Age-appropriate fundamentals

Skill-building activities matched to each grade level, so every player develops at the right pace.

Inclusive strategies

Rotations and game plans designed to give every kid meaningful playing time and touches.

Peer mentorship

Older and more experienced players are encouraged to lift up their teammates.

Emotional maturity

Coaches model composure and respect, especially in high-pressure moments.

Respect for the game

We teach kids to honor officials, opponents, and the sport itself.

Our Standards

What We Expect on the Sidelines

Clear standards for coaches, parents, and fans keep the league focused on kids first.

Never

  • Yell aggressively at players, coaches, or officials
  • Cheat or bend the rules to win
  • Criticize referees or their calls publicly
  • Prioritize adult agendas over kids’ experience
  • Let winning overshadow the experience

Always

  • Respect league and parish leadership
  • Offer positive, constructive feedback
  • Celebrate effort and sportsmanship equally with skill
  • Put the well-being of every child first
  • Model the character we hope kids will build
